Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 already obsolete?

While at CES 2012 I had the rare opportunity to meet with Richard Neumann and Catalina Guirado-Cheadle from TriLumina. If you haven't heard of TriLumina yet, don't worry you will. They specialize in a new piece of technology that's set to compete with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0.

Essentially, what this technology does is allow users to wirelessly connect devices at fiber optic speeds. Meaning you can transfer an entire days worth of music in ONE second and large uncompressed HD footage in only a few seconds. This "Light Engine" will allow wireless transfer rates of 10 Gigabits per second, approximately 500 times faster than most home wireless data rate transfers or the best 4G mobile hotspots.

The power of this technology is very impressive, and I for one am very anxious to see what devices it will end up in. With Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 just starting to gain traction, I can't help but wonder if both of these technologies are already becoming obsolete. We have already seen a huge shift in wireless technology over the last few years, and it is my belief that this shift will greatly continue.

My question on Ask Jay

Jay Adelson is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Digg and Revision3. He hosts a weekly show on Revision3 called Ask Jay in which he provides tips and answers questions for entrepreneurs. A few weeks ago I sent in a video response and this week he featured my question on his episode "Prepping for VC Meetings." I thought it was pretty cool so I thought I would share.

I can haz the Galaxy Nexus?

After much anticipation and a handful of delays, Verizon has officially announced that the Galaxy Nexus will be available starting tomorrow, December 15th. I have been anxiously awaiting this day, but am I really ready to ditch my iPhone for an Android device?

I have always liked the idea of Android. I have reviewed tons of Android handsets and even owned a few, but none have kept me away from the iPhone for long. I have consistently been an iPhone user since it initially debuted in 2007, but something changed in the last four years, iOS started to bore me. While I love its simplicity and multitude off apps, it has essentially been the same since the beginning. Android on the other hand, has molded and evolved, and is vastly different than its first iteration found on the T-Mobile G1. Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) is new, elegant and one of the biggest draws of the Galaxy Nexus. Couple that with LTE and a sleek design from Samsung, and you've got yourself a pretty solid device.

Will I purchase the Galaxy Nexus? Will I leave what I know in search of something new? I've yet to decide, but one thing is certain, I will definitely be visiting a Verizon store. Either way, look for my initial impressions tomorrow.

Dumbing things down

Mobiture started in January of 2009 as a one-stop source for mobile news and reviews. Since then, it has received coverage on many other technology websites such as Engadget, Gizmodo, TUAW, and 9to5mac. While I enjoyed the never-ending race to break stories, I soon realized that running a technology news site alone was next to impossible. For brief periods, I hired other writers to assist with the writing duties, but I never found someone that truly fit what I was looking for.

A little over year ago, I began focusing most of my efforts on YouTube, and less on actual writing. In April of this year, I was accepted into the YouTube Partner Program, which allowed me to monetize my content and make money talking about the thing that I love, technology. Meanwhile, I was left paying hosting fees to keep a website running that wasn't profitable at all.

After some careful consideration, this brings me to today. Mobiture is my brand and will continue to be so. I will continue uploading my videos to YouTube, many of which will be posted on the web page you see currently. In addition to this, I will also post bits of news, thoughts, opinions, and whatever else I see fit. Essentially, as the URL says, this will be the Mobiture Blog

There are many changes happening over the next few months, and I hope many of you will join me on this exciting adventure. Thank you for your continued support, you guys are the best!
